Kim Pinkston
Kim has over 24 years of experience in the substance use treatment field and she has held leadership and supervisory positions for the past 23 years. She specializes in adult residential treatment, with additional experience in detox and outpatient services. Kim has knowledge and experience working with co-occurring disorders with special training in working with trauma.
Kim is a regular presenter and co-presenter at the annual spring Illinois Certification Board Conference. She has provided workshops on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), using Dance/Movement Therapy with addiction treatment, understanding trauma and interventions when working with trauma, and clinical supervision. Kim is a member of the Training of Leaders, an organization sponsored by the Illinois Certification Board, made up of leaders in the field of substance use treatment. Through this organization Kim provides education and mentorship to future leaders. Additionally, Kim has guest lectured at South Suburban College and Columbia College Chicago on the subjects of using non-verbal communication in counseling and treating addiction. She is fully trained in the Aggression Replacement Training program for adolescent and adult populations.
Kim developed a successful internship program while at Southwood Interventions, working with Master’s level students from Columbia College Chicago and Antioch University. In 2007, Kim received the Site Supervisors Award from Columbia College for her excellence in supervision. She continues to provide supervision for counselors working toward their LCPC and CADC.
Kim believes addiction is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. As a Board Certified Dance/Movement Therapist and Graduate Level Certified Movement Analyst, Kim brings a unique perspective to the understanding and treatment of substance use and mental health. She is trained in traditional counseling methods as well as alternative, expressive art therapies. Kim has a master’s degree in Dance/Movement Therapy and Counseling, is a licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, and Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor.
